Revival of Christmas Cheer Fund hits $100K goal

MASON CITY — The Christmas Cheer Fund has surpassed its goal. The program started back in 1927 by Globe Gazette publisher Lee Loomis was not sponsored by the newspaper for the first time last year and was brought back this year by a new board made up of former Globe employees and other volunteers.
Board member Cori Frein says they are happy that north-central Iowans responded to the revival of the program. “We are very excited and feel very grateful to announce that we have exceeded our goal of $100,000 for our efforts this year with the Christmas Cheer Fund. We actually as of last week are at a total of $109,754 raised for our efforts. So yeah, very exciting.”
Frein says the board is overwhelmed with the generous support from the community. “I think people realize they are making a profound difference in the lives of families that are in need this holiday season in north Iowa, so it’s really special just to think that so many people are going to be receiving hope, joy, and love at a time where those things are really important, and it’s thanks to all of the neighbors here in north Iowa that have supported our mission.”
Despite the goal being made, you can still make a donation. Mail in donations to Christmas Cheer Fund, PO Box 28 in Mason City with a zip code of 50402.
You can also find a way to donate through the Christmas Cheer Fund website by heading here.
