Mason City Municipal Airport old terminal to come down in first part of 2025

MASON CITY — The old terminal at the Mason City Municipal Airport will be coming down in the first part of 2025. The Mason City Airport Commission recently approved a contract to demolish the old building after the new terminal opened back in July.

City Administrator Aaron Burnett says the former terminal site will be restored to green space.   “That’ll just be graded out. The pavement that’s there, obviously they have general aviation that parks in that area, they have tie-downs in that area. As far as where the old site is, there’s no plan for that right now. I’m sure there might be something in the future with its location, but right now it’s just going to be graded out.”

McDowell & Sons of Iowa Falls had the best bid on the demolition project at $347,732. All the pre-demolition work has been completed, including the removal of asbestos. The company plans to start tearing down the walls of the building sometime in February or March.
