Florida couple, central Iowa man dead after two-vehicle crash in Worth County Saturday

HANLONTOWN — A Florida couple as well as a man from central Iowa are dead after a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Worth County on Saturday morning.
The Iowa State Patrol says shortly before 9 o’clock, a vehicle driven by 83-year-old Leonard Lilyholm of Palm Beach Florida crossed the median from the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Bradley Vonnahme of Coon Rapids Iowa.
Lilyholm as well as the other passenger in his vehicle, 82-year-old Carol Lilyholm, and Vonnahme all died as a result of the crash. Three others in Vonnahme’s vehicle were injured — six-year-old Brookes Vonnahme of Coon Rapids, 26-year-old Saul Huntley-Ayala of Ames and 24-year-old Victor Santos of Ames. The three injured were taken to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City for treatment.
Several sources say Len Lilyholm was a retired professional hockey player who played for two seasons with the World Hockey League’s Minnesota Fighting Saints in 1972 and 1973. He was also a member of the 1968 USA Olympic Hockey Team, was an architect and builder who participated in the design of the St. Paul Civic Center, and appeared as a hockey coach in the 1978 romantic drama film “Ice Castles”
