Hinson hopes Laken Riley Act passes Senate

WASHINGTON — The Laken Riley Act passed the House earlier this week and now hits the Senate floor. The bill would mandate federal detention of immigrants without legal status accused of theft, burglary and other related crimes.
North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson voted for the bill and says House Republicans are immediately delivering on the mandate that the American people made to secure the border and address the illegal alien crisis. “This critical legislation requires ICE to arrest illegal aliens who commit theft defenses and mandates that these aliens are detained until they are removed from the country, so they cannot reoffend and continue to victimize Americans. That’s just common sense. This legislation is the first of many steps to make our communities safe again and keep illegal criminals off our streets.”
48 Democrats joined with House Republicans to approve the bill, but Hinson doesn’t understand those who voted against the bill. “It’s unbelievable to me that 159 Democrats in the House put illegal aliens over American citizens and voted against this bill, so I’m hopeful it will be able to pass the Senate with bipartisan support so we can ensure no family has to endure what Laken Riley and other families have.”
The legislation is named for Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was murdered by an illegal alien on the University of Georgia campus in February of last year.
