Man accused of 2022 Cedar Falls murder of Clear Lake man waives right to speedy trial

WATERLOO — A Davenport man charged this past April with murdering a Clear Lake man in a 2022 shooting in Cedar Falls has waived his right to a speedy trial.
31-year-old Beau Ekstrom was charged with first-degree murder as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Ekstrom was accused by authorities of being one of the people involved in a February 6th 2022 gunfight in the 2200 block of College Street in Cedar Falls that resulted in the death of 19-year-old Arthur Lang of Clear Lake. Two others were injured in the incident.
A criminal complaint states that Ekstrom and a friend were standing in a parking lot when an SUV with Lang and others from the Mason City and Clear Lake area pulled up, with at some point Ekstrom allegedly firing a gun at people in the vehicle.
One of the people in the vehicle, Brandon Mitchell of Mason City, was arrested for attempted murder and is scheduled to be tried in April. Another person, Daniel Judon of Mason City, pleaded guilty to intimidation with a dangerous weapon, pleaded guilty to intimidation with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to ten years in prison.
Ekstrom has had his trial delayed twice previously, and on Monday, he filed a waiver in Black Hawk County District Court for his right to a speedy trial within one year. No new trial date has been scheduled. Ekstrom is being held in the Black Hawk County Jail on a total of $1.1 million bond.
