Hinson envisions reconciliation bill vote in early spring

WASHINGTON — North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson says she expects a vote this spring on a reconciliation package that President-elect Trump is pushing to get done.
“I believe we’re going to pass a strong reconciliation package sometime in early spring, because we do have a mandate from the American people to make our country prosperous, strong and safe again. That’s what I heard out on the campaign trail and that’s what we promised to voters. I think most importantly we are looking at not only cutting spending but we’re also looking at ways to save taxpayers money,” she told reporters during a recent conference call.
Hinson says there are a lot of conversations that have to take place about what policy goes into such a bill. “We are starting those conversations now, and I’m going to support whatever path forward gets us these solutions across the finish line is what I’m going to work on supporting. I think that’s what’s been asked of me. I don’t care if it’s one bill or two bills, I want to make sure we get that policy done and so I’m going to support that and support President Trump as we have these conversations with our team as well.”
Trump has proposed a reconciliation bill that would include proposals on immigration and taxes as well as government spending and regulations. It would extend tax cuts he signed into law in 2019 and fulfill a campaign promise to eliminate the federal tax on tips. The President-elect also wants the package to include energy and defense issues as well as border security measures.
