NIACC sweeps Iowa Western in basketball

MASON CITY – Sophomore Tori Miller scored 25 points with 10 rebounds, eight assists and two steals to lead No. 15 NIACC to a 81-68 victory over Iowa Western Saturday afternoon in an ICCAC women’s basketball contest in the NIACC gym.

Miller, who is from Goodhue, Minn., was one of four Trojans in double figures as they snapped a three-game losing streak to the Reivers. Freshman Reggi Spotts scored 18 points, sophomore Keeley Steele scored 16 points and sophomore Karly Holm scored 10 points.

It was Miller’s third double/double of the 2024-25 season and sixth of her career.

Miller now has 682 career points, which ranks 24th on NIACC’s career scoring list.

NIACC led 28-17 after the first quarter and led 47-32 at the half.

Steele had seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Spotts had seven rebounds and three steals.

Holm had five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot.

Iowa Western (9-9 overall, 3-5 in the ICCAC) was led by Caela Tighe with 19 points. The Reivers’ Sydney Donaldson scored 17 points.

NIACC (14-4, 5-3) returns to action Saturday, Jan. 18 at home against Marshalltown CC in an ICCAC contest. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 1 p.m.

MASON CITY – For the second time this season, the NIACC men’s basketball team knocked off a ranked opponent.

NIACC (12-5 overall, 5-3 in the ICCAC) received 18 points off the bench from sophomore Adam Hackett and upset No. 21 (NJCAA Division II) Iowa Western 73-68 Saturday afternoon in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym.

Earlier this sesaon, NIACC stopped then No. 9 Ellsworth 90-85 on Nov. 30 in Iowa Falls.

In Saturday’s win over the Reivers, Hackett also had six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.

Also for the Trojans, Lance Helming and Jaheim Savage both scored 12 points, also off the bench. Helming also collected four rebounds while Savage had five assists, two rebounds and one blocked shot.

NIACC’s Zion Wright scored nine points with 11 rebounds, two steals, one assist and one blocked shot.

NIACC sophomore guard Omarion Roberts scored eight points with six assists, five rebounds and three steals. The Trojans’ Brayden Drea scored nine points with four rebounds and three assists.

Iowa Western (12-6, 5-3) was led by Bryson Calamese with 15 points. The Reivers’ Jadon Cool scored 14 points and Daleron Thomas scored 10 points.

NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC contest at Western Iowa Tech. Game time in Sioux City is slated for 7:30 p.m.
