DES MOINES — An Extreme Cold Warning will be in effect overnight tonight for our listening area. The National Weather Service has a Cold Weather Advisory in effect from 6:00 PM this evening until midnight tonight, and will be followed by the Extreme Cold Warning until 9:00 AM tomorrow morning.

During the Cold Weather Advisory time, very cold wind chills of 20-to-35 below zero are forecast, and for the Extreme Cold Warning time period, wind chill values of 30-to-38 below are expected. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30-below could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Make sure you are using caution if you are walking or traveling outside,  dressing in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves.
