Former Hancock County man sentenced to 22 years on sexual abuse charges

GARNER — It’s up to 22 years in prison for a former Hancock County man who was found guilty of child sexual abuse.
39-year-old Charles Pennington, whose residence at the time of his arrest was listed as New Virginia in central Iowa, was found guilty by a Hancock County jury in October of two counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of indecent contact with a child.
A criminal complaint states that Garner police in 2023 responded to a sexual abuse allegation, with the underage victim stating that sexual abuse and indecent contact started in about 2017 and continued until 2019.
District Judge Gregg Rosenbladt on Friday sentenced Pennington to ten years in prison on the sexual abuse charge and two years on the indecent contact charge, with all three sentences to be served consecutively.
