MARSHALLTOWN — The Mason City High girls basketball team used a 13-4 second quarter to beat Marshalltown 44-30 in Iowa Alliance Conference Northern Division play last night. Mason City is now 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while Marshalltown drops to 0-5 in the conference and 5-9 overall. Marshalltown took the boys game 40-27, as Mason City drops to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference. MASON CITY — #14/1A Newman outscored Nashua-Plainfield 30-16 in the middle two quarters as the Knights picked up a 56-39 win in Top of Iowa Conference East Division play night night at home. Newman is now 11-3 overall and are 9-1 in conference play. In the boys game, Newman jumped out to a 26-11 lead after the first quarter on their way to an 83-57 victory. The Knights are now 7-3 in the conference and 9-4 overall. Both Newman teams will travel to West Fork on Friday.
