Mason City’s city administrator keeping an eye on statehouse as session gets underway

MASON CITY — Mason City’s city administrator says city leaders will be keeping an eye on what’s happening at the statehouse as the session gets underway.

Aaron Burnett says there’s a lot of conversation that impacts local governments, specifically property taxes, that are on the agenda.  “Basically the whole staff is in an outreach mode to kind of tell the story of each one of those departments and how those property taxes are used to serve the community, and the benefit that’s derived from them, and also to inform future legislative proposals to make sure that the policy is sound when it’s passed. I think we’ve got legislators that understand the issues and we’re hopeful and optimistic that they’ll be able to communicate that back into the General Assembly.”

Republican leaders in the legislature say setting new limits on property taxes is their top priority in this year’s session.
