Dale W. Witt

Dale W. Witt, 98, passed away January 22, 2025 at Nora Springs Care Center.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 27, 2025, at Sheckler Colonial
Chapel, 114 N Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Boostrom officiating. Visitation
will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial in at Park Cemetery,
Nora Springs. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Dale W. Witt was born May 25, 1926 at home in rural Nora Springs. He was the son of William
and Myrtie (Pribbenow) Witt. Dale attended Rockford number four country school for eight
years. He graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1943. After high school he farmed with
his dad. He entered the US Navy in December 1950, serving until his discharge in October
1954. After returning home from the Navy, Dale farmed with his brother, Harold, for many years
and he retired in 1988. Dale bought the home farm in 1971 after the death of his parents. He
sold the farm to his niece, Cindy, and her husband, Chuck Fink in 1995 and moved to his home
in Nora Springs. The Pribbenow-Witt-Fink farm was awarded a Century Farm plaque in Des
Moines in 2003.
Dale enjoyed going to Arizona to watch Pro golfers play, and also going to Las Vegas to do a
little gambling. He attended reunions of the USS New Jersey now anchored at Philadelphia, PA.
In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, watching baseball games, and going for coffee in the
mornings with friend Jim Clark and nephew Bill Witt. He also enjoyed watching Western movies
on TV and doing crossword puzzles. Dale was a member of the Nora Springs American Legion
Post 449 since 1954, and USS New Jersey Veterans, Inc.
Dale is survived by his nephew, Jim Witt; three nieces, Barb O’Donnell, Jolene Juhl and Cindy
Fink. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edna Hallabrin; brother, Harold Witt and
sister-law, Genevieve Witt; sister, Bonnie Billings; brother-law, Jim Billings; nephew, Bruce
Billings; nephew, Dan Marrs; and nephew, Bill Witt.
