Florine was born on October 18, 1931, at her family farm in North Washington, Iowa. She was the youngest child of Ambrose and Clara (Zubrod) Kuehn. She attended Catholic school in North Washington and spent her teenage years caring for other families, a role that reflected her nurturing spirit.
From a young age, Florine developed a passion for playing the accordion, a passion that remained with her throughout her life. On April 2, 1951, she married Harold Sylvester Boehmer, and together they built a family, welcoming seven children into their lives. The family moved frequently due to Harold’s government job before eventually settling in Mason City, Iowa.
Florine attained her GED and certificate of cosmetology at the age of forty. She had a fulfilling career as a beautician until the age of seventy. Many of her customers became friends. After Harold’s passing in 1983, she found comfort and companionship in a group of women, with whom she shared meaningful travel experiences and friendships.
In retirement, Florine made it a goal to leave the house daily, often accompanied by her daughters. Her activities varied over the years, especially before and after her journey with dementia, during this time she was able to stay in her own home with the help of her family, caregiver, Anna Rodriquez and Anna’s daughter, Christina. Her favorite pastime after her diagnosis of dementia was crafting Froot Loop necklaces for the squirrels. She also enjoyed lending a hand in the kitchen, folding laundry, and other projects to keep her hands busy.
Florine’s life was a testament to her resilience, work ethic, creativity, and love for family and friends.
Those left to enjoy memories of Florine are her children, Neil (Mary) Boehmer, Kevin (Deanna) Boehmer, Delane (Peggy) Boehmer, Chris (Linda) Boehmer, Lisa (Roger) Boehmer Crimmins, and Michele (Christopher Johnson) Boehmer; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
Florine is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Boehmer; son, Craig; her parents and her siblings.
