Francis “Frank” Voet, 95 of Mason City

Francis “Frank” Voet, 95 of Mason City passed away surrounded by family Saturday, January 25, 2025 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. 

Funeral Services will be 10:30a Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City, IA 50401 with Rev. Beverly Butler of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Marg at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Military Honors will be presented by the Mason City Honor Guard. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00pm Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the funeral home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City. 

Francis was born October 18, 1929 on the family farm near Otranto, IA, the youngest child of Morris A. and Madeleine M. (Paemeleire) Voet. He grew up in the area, attending St. Ansgar Schools and working on the family farm. Frank soon began his service with the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict for two years until his honorable discharge. On November 27, 1951 he married the love of his life, Marjorie Ann “Marg” Rasmussen in Kensett. The couple was blessed with three children: Linda, Gary and Nancy and soon made their home in Mason City. It was here Frank worked at Decker and later with Henkel Construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Later, Frank worked in maintenance at Curries before his retirement. 

Frank was a man of remarkable character—resourceful, meticulous, and a true gentleman in every sense. His kindness and generosity were evident in everything he did, from sharing bountiful vegetables and homemade canned goods from the garden he and Marg tended, to helping family and friends during planting and harvest seasons. A self-taught woodworker with an eye for detail, Frank even built the family home in 1954 with Marg and the support of neighbors and friends. He was proud of his Belgian heritage, and the annual “Belgium Bash” family reunion was a highlight of his year, bringing together loved ones for days of food, fun, and cherished memories. Frank had a knack for bringing people together, whether it was through his famous homemade ice cream for birthdays, a good cup of coffee, or his time at the Senior Center, Moose Lodge, and VFW. An avid fisherman, he especially loved casting lines with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. A devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Frank served faithfully as an usher for over 20 years. Above all, Frank’s heart was with his family, and he found his greatest joy in the time spent with those he loved most.

Frank is survived by his children, Linda (Fred) Nolte of Mason City, Gary Voet of Mason City, and Nancy (Klay) DeVries of Shoreview, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kevin Nolte, Curt Nolte, Michael (Jenna) Voet, Lauren (Tom) Hertel and Carly (Zach Jacobson) DeVries; great-grandchildren, Brooke (Caleb), Morgan, Avery, Morgan, Aubrey, Autumn, Ben, Taylor and Max; great-great grandchildren, Harrison, Landry, Emma and Leighton; sister-in-law, Joan Rasmussen; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marg; parents; sisters, Mary (Tom) Purcell and Bertha (Jean) Neeley; brothers-in-law, Marlyn Rasmussen, and Dale (Janice) Rasmussen.
