Monday high school basketball roundup — Clear Lake girls beat #14/1A Newman

CLEAR LAKE — After losing to two ranked opponents last week, the Clear Lake girls basketball team beat #14/1A Newman 55-50 in Clear Lake last night, as you heard on 103.7 The Fox and saw on northiowanow.com. Both teams traded the lead several times throughout the game before the Lions were able to take a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter and hold off the Knights. Clear Lake coach Bart Smith says Newman provided a great challenge for his club.
Ashleigh Amble had 16 points and seven blocks to lead the Lions, who also got 14 from Madi Ott and 13 from Jacelyn Ainley as Clear Lake improves to 5-10 on the season and will play at Humboldt on Friday. Newman was led by Sami Kruckenberg who had 17, as the Knights drop to 11-5 on the season and turn right around and travel to Crestwood tonight.
