Charles City man stopped in Cerro Gordo County for meth possession sentenced to prison

SIOUX CITY — A Charles City man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for possession of methamphetamine.

46-year-old Jeremy Scott received the prison term on Tuesday after pleading guilty back in October to one count of possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams of meth.

The US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa’s office says Scott admitted as part of his guilty plea that he was a passenger in a van that was stopped by law enforcement on Interstate 35 on June 6th of last year in Cerro Gordo County after a tip that he was traveling to Iowa from California with multiple pounds of meth.

A K-9 was deployed around the van and provided a positive alert. Scott admitted to having a meth pipe in the door of the van where he was seated and claimed everything in the van was his. A search found about four pounds of meth inside a Rice Krispies box.

US District Judge Leonard Strand sentenced Scott on Tuesday to 90 months in prison to be followed by four years of supervised release.
