Richard L. “Dick” Lonning, 94, of Mason City

Richard L. “Dick” Lonning, 94, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on January 30,
2025, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City.
Richard was born on April 3, 1930, in Thor, Iowa, to Lennie and Leone (Hansen)
Lonning. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1948 and later worked as a
bus driver for Jefferson Lines. On October 6, 1965, he married Roxann Styve in
Decorah, Iowa, and they shared many wonderful years together until her passing
in 1996.
Dick was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with loved ones. He
found joy in listening to KCMR, sitting outside on nice days, and watching
basketball and football games. He also had a love for polka music and a cold
Busch Light.
He is survived by his children, Jeff (Lani) Lonning, Jan Hedrick, Kyle Lonning, and
Kim Bresnahan; his grandchildren, Taylor and Danny (Baylee, Chase, Montana),
Nick and Corey, Jordan and Samantha (Tula, Liam), Jake, Sadie (Kyler), Whitney
(Ava, Norah), Katie and Dillon (Ruby, Kai, Banks), and Pablo (Penelope, Elsie); and
his brothers, Gary and Frank Lonning.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxann; his parents, Lennie and Leone; and
his brothers, Dennis, Chuck, Phil, and Roger.
Dick’s memory will be cherished by his family and friends. As an avid listener of
KCMR, please consider memorials left in his name to the radio station.
He will be laid to rest by his beloved wife, Roxann, at Elmwood St. Joseph
Cemetery.
