Hinson: DOGE is what the government needs

WASHINGTON — There have been many questions about the work of the Department of Government Efficiency since President Trump took office, with government watchdog groups saying the agency’s scope and its level of transparency raise numerous questions about the agency led by Elon Musk.

North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson says at this point, DOGE is what the government needs.  “Taxpayers voted for accountability and transparency. President Trump talked about on the campaign trail having someone with Elon’s experience come in and help to again take a sledge hammer to the administrative state, look at the kinds of expenditures that they have been able to propose, coming out of the executive branch in just the last two weeks. I think this is exactly what Iowans want to see is accountability and transparency in the local government.”

Hinson says some of the pushback is expected from detractors.  “I would just take a look at people who are pushing back. They are the people who want business as usual because it’s lucrative for them and benefits them. My only care and concern here is how does this benefit taxpayers, how does this protect our country and make sure we’re setting ourselves up for success on the global stage. That’s what I will continue to put and be laser focused on as we continue to make these kind of discoveries under DOGE, and I look forward to seeing what I can do as a member of the Appropriations Committee to back that up.”

Hinson made her comments on Thursday during a conference call with reporters. Hinson’s district includes Cerro Gordo, Worth, Mitchell, Floyd and Butler counties in our immediate listening area.
