Seven area wrestlers into the semifinals at girls state wrestling

CORALVILLE — Day one of girls state wrestling in Coralville is complete, with seven of our area wrestlers into the semifinal round and eight others still alive in the consolation round and will place and be on the podium later tonight:

== In Class 2A, Mason City’s 235-pounder Aniyah Smith is the only Riverhawk to make it along into the semifinals as she picked up a 1-0 decision in the quarterfinals over Reese Baxter of Raccoon River-Northwest. Still alive in the consolation bracket for Mason City are Piper Phillips at 100, Ella Als at 110, Carleigh Arjes at 120, and Damiyah Williams at 140. 

== For Clear Lake, they have two wrestlers still alive in consolation as Pieper Lester at 130 and Kayma Burleson at 170 won second-round consolation matches. 

== In Class 1A, Osage is fourth in the team race heading into today as they have 39.5 points and three wrestlers into the semifinals. At 100, Ainsley Hemann pinned Molly Konechne of Central Lyon-George-Little Rock in the quarterfinals. Gable Hemann at 110 picked up a 14-second fall over Hailey Harvey of Oakland Riverside, while Madison Swenson at 120 got a third-period pin over Malyn Davis of Algona. East Buchanan leads Class 1A with 53.5 points, Mount Vernon is second with 42, Decorah is third with 40.5, and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont is tied with Osage for fourth place. 

=== Also in 1A, Mariah Michels of St. Ansgar is into the semifinals at 115 after a 16-1 tech fall win over Kate Krause of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the quarterfinals. Charles City’s two entries into the tournament both are into the semifinals as Destiny Kolheim at 155 picked up a 6-1 quarterfinal round win over Lauren Luzum of Decorah. Leah Stewart at 190 beat Mary Bowman of Logan-Magnolia-Woodbine 5-0 in the quarterfinals.
