DeJean celebrates birthday scoring on interception in Eagles win over Chiefs
NEW ORLEANS — Iowa native Cooper DeJean celebrated his 22nd birthday on Sunday by scoring on an interception in the second quarter of the Super Bowl as he helped Philadelphia beat Kansas City.
DeJean became the first player in Super Bowl history to intercept a pass or score a touchdown on his birthday when he picked off Patrick Mahomes and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles a 17-0 lead. It was the first Super Bowl “pick six” in eight years since Robert Alford had one for Atlanta against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
Eagles teammate Saquon Barkley was also celebrating his 28th birthday by setting the single-season record for most combined yards rushing in the regular season and playoffs.
Philadelphia beat the Chiefs 40-22.
