First of two winter storm systems this week to impact north-central Iowa this afternoon, evening

MASON CITY — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hancock, Wright and Kossuth counties from the middle of this afternoon to the early morning hours of Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says today will be the first of two snowfall events we will see this week. This first round of snowfall will start late this morning and then spread south and east through the afternoon and evening hours. This will result in a dry, fluffy snowfall with accumulations of two to four inches possible here in north-central Iowa.

Another winter system is forecast to move through starting early Wednesday morning in southeastern Iowa and spreading north and east through the day before eventually departing in the evening. This will also produce a dry, fluffy snowfall with the greatest accumulations in southeastern Iowa of four to seven inches, with diminishing accumulations farther north and west.

The National Weather Service says both systems have the potential to produce slick and hazardous travel as snow collects on the roadways.
