NEWTON — A former Hampton man serving time in prison for sexual abuse died last week.
53-year-old Chad Burmester had been serving a sentence at the Newton Correctional Facility since January 2007 after being convicted of four counts of second-degree sexual abuse.
Prosecutors said at the time that Burmester sexually abused a seven-year-old girl in Black Hawk County in 2004. He was arrested in 2006 after police found pictures of the encounters on a computer. Burmester was sentenced to 25 years on the sexual abuse charges and was also serving a 30 year sentence on federal child pornography charges.
Burmester died last Tuesday at the MercyOne Newton Medical Center
