Mason City man sentenced to almost 22 years in prison on federal meth dealing charge

SIOUX CITY — It’s more than 20 years in federal prison for a Mason City man on a methamphetamine distribution charge.

40-year-old Monroe Thompson was sentenced late last week in US District Court in Sioux City after he pleaded guilty back in August to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

Federal prosecutors say evidence showed that between May 2023 and August 2023 that Thompson was part of an ongoing drug conspiracy based in Mason City to distribute meth and fentanyl. Thompson purchased meth from sources working with law enforcement. During the execution of a search warrant at Thompson’s residence, officers located counterfeit M-30 pills containing fentanyl.

Thompson has an extensive criminal history in drugs, illegal possession of firearms, assault and burglary in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Thompson was sentenced by US District Court Judge Leonard Strand to 21 years and 10 months in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
