Clear Lake boys use strong second half to advance in substate tournament play

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake outscored Hampton-Dumont-CAL 57-15 in the final three quarters as the top-ranked Lions boys basketball team picked up a 74-27 win in a Class 3A Substate 3 quarterfinal round game last night in Clear Lake, as you heard on 103.7 The Fox and saw on northiowanow.com.
Coach Jeremey Ainley says his team came out and played well in the second half after a sluggish first half.
Sophomore Jaxson McIntire led Clear Lake with 14 points, with Thomas Meyer adding 13 and Carson Riser contributing 12. Clear Lake now faces Vinton-Shellsburg in Thursday’s substate semifinal in Clear Lake. The Vikings upset Center Point-Urbana 68-64. On the other side of the bracket, Solon edged Benton 58-55 and Nevada beat Webster City 60-23.
