St. Ansgar, West Fork drop girls basketball regional championship games

MASON CITY — St. Ansgar and West Fork fell in girls basketball regional championship games played on Wednesday night:

 

== Bishop Garrigan of Algona jumped out to a 21-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as the Golden Bears punched their ticket to another state tournament with a 73-44 win over St. Ansgar, in the Class 1A Region 4 championship game played at Mason City High School. Bishop Garrigan is now 22-3 on the season and will be the #4 seed in the state tournament as they will face Montezuma in the state quarterfinals. St. Ansgar ends their season with an 18-6 record. 

 

== #5 Central Lyon used a 13-point run to finish the game as they held off #14 West Fork 69-53 in the Class 2A Region 6 championship game in Estherville. The Warhawks had cut the lead to 56-53 to start the fourth quarter before Central Lyon went on their final run. West Fork ends their season with a 20-4 record. Central Lyon will be the #5 seed in the state tournament and will face #4 seed North Mahaska in the 2A state quarterfinals next week.
