Blizzard conditions will create challenges for snow plows
MASON CITY — Blizzard conditions means it will be tough to keep the area’s roads clear.
Pete Hjelmstad with the Iowa Department of Transportation says crews will be out trying to clear the roads as long as it’s safe for them to do so. “We’re going to have crews out 24/7, especially on the interstate, but when I say that, that’s as conditions allow. If it gets to the point where it’s not safe for our plow drivers, if the visibility gets to the point where they cannot see, we will pull the plows, and that will make things pile up, and then it’s going to take a little bit for us to catch up. That’s the last resort, but again the safety of our staff is top priority.”
