Grassley says Congress needs to move forward on Farm Bill

WASHINGTON — Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says it’s time to stop kicking the can down the road and pass a new five-year Farm Bill.

“So far this year, I’ve already had over 1000 Iowans write me with concerns about the Farm Bill. You know it should have been done in 2023 and it wasn’t. You know it should have been done in 2024 and it wasn’t. I hope it’s worth noting to you that Democrats controlled Congress during both of those years, now Republicans are in a majority. We have a responsibility to deliver something that two years of Democrat Congress could not deliver,” Grassley told reporters earlier this week.

Grassley says the 2018 five-year Farm Bill should not have been turned into a seven-year bill.  “We know that the farm economy looks very different today than it did seven years ago. The Senate Agriculture Committee is starting its move to a Farm Bill. We’ve had two hearings on the state of the farm economy. I don’t think we’re going to have to have almost a dozen hearings like we did over the last two years. We’ve got all the information that came out of those hearings. The hearings that we’ve had help ensure that we know exactly what needs to be done to support rural America.”

Grassley as well as Iowa’s other US Senator Joni Ernst serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee.
