High speed chase results in five year prison sentence for Mason City man

MASON CITY — It’s five years in prison for a Mason City man who led authorities on a high-speed chase back in January.
A criminal complaint said 31-year-old Anthony Long eluded law enforcement by driving speeds over 25 miles per hour or more above the 55 mile per hour speed limit late on the night of January 19th in the northwestern part of the community. Long was previously convicted of eluding law enforcement in 2021.
Long was charged with: eluding with speeds over 25 miles per hour second or subsequent offense, a Class C felony; as well as driving while barred and interference with official acts causing bodily injury.
Long pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of eluding first offense, a Class D felony, as well as to the original interference with official acts causing bodily injury charge, with the driving while barred charge being dropped.
District Associate Judge Adam Sauer sentenced Long to five years in prison on the eluding charge and one year in jail on the interference with official acts charge, with the sentences to run at the same time.
