Blizzard Warnings in effect for Wednesday for north-central Iowa

MASON CITY — Blizzard Warnings are now in effect for the majority of our listening area for Wednesday morning into Wednesday night, including the Mason City-Clear Lake area.
The combination of moderate to heavy snow and strong, gusty winds may produce blizzard conditions on Wednesday. Two inch per hour snowfall rates will be possible along with thundersnow. The National Weather Service says here in north-central Iowa, we could see anywhere between two and ten inches of snow. Damaging wind gusts of 60 miles per hour or more are possible.
Whiteout conditions are possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
The Blizzard Warning as well as a High Wind Warning covers Cerro Gordo, Worth, Winnebago, Hancock and Wright counties in our immediate listening area and also includes the cities of Fort Dodge and points to the west and southwest.
A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Floyd and Mitchell counties from late tonight through Wednesday evening.
