Mason City man accused of violent home break-in sentenced to jail time

MASON CITY — A Mason City man accused of violently breaking into a home has been sentenced to jail time as part of a plea agreement.
31-year-old Logan Harris was accused of kicking down a door and entering a residence in the 300 block of East State Street on January 8th. A criminal complaint stated that Harris hit an occupant of the residence with a bat, causing a head injury, and that he caused property damage and took property belonging to the victim. Harris also allegedly prevented the victim from communicating with emergency services by breaking the victim’s phone.
Harris was charged with first-degree burglary, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison, as well as third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor. Harris originally pleaded not guilty to the charges, but entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors, pleading guilty to assault causing bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, as well as third-degree criminal mischief.
Harris was sentenced by District Judge Chris Foy to 365 days in jail on the assault charge, with all but 60 days suspended, as well as a two-year suspended sentence on the criminal mischief charge.
