Travel not advised in north-central Iowa due to blizzard conditions
MASON CITY — Travel conditions will continue to deteriorate through the afternoon as a winter storm causing blizzard conditions moves through our listening area.
US Highway 18 was blocked west of Garner late this morning due to a multiple vehicle crash. No other details about the crash were immediately available.
The combination of moderate to heavy snow and strong, gusty winds are forecast to produce blizzard conditions today in the warning area.
Most areas will see between two to six inches of total snowfall, but there could be a band of six to 12 inches of snow. Strong and damaging wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour are also expected.
Travel will become impossible at times with many roads becoming impassable. Travel should be restricted to emergencies only, but if you must travel, make sure you have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay inside your vehicle.
