North-central Iowa digs out from blizzard on first day of spring
MASON CITY — As we turn the calendar to the first day of spring today, there’s no weather advisories in place this morning after Wednesday’s blizzard impacted many parts of Iowa including here locally. Looking at snowfall amounts:
== Clear Lake received 7.5 inches
== The highest amounts in north-central Iowa were in Kossuth County with Lakota picking up 14.5 inches; Algona had 12.5 inches; while Ledyard picked up 12.
== Buffalo Center in Winnebago County had 11 inches
== Forest City had 7.8 inches
== Marble Rock and a storm spotter five miles south-southwest of Floyd in Floyd County each reported 6 inches
== Thornton reported 5 inches
Highs this week will be above freezing, with a high near 50 predicted for Sunday in Mason City.
Several schools announced delays to start this morning due to road conditions continuing to be poor. As of early this morning, US Highway 18 west of Clear Lake to Algona was completely covered with ice. Meanwhile Interstate 35 from the Minnesota border down to State Highway 3 was in normal conditions.
