Sentencing date set for Mason City man who enters Alford plea in Floyd County sexual abuse case

NORA SPRINGS — The sentencing date has been set for a Mason City man accused of sexual abuse in Floyd County who entered an Alford plea in the case.
33-year old Joshua Jasso was charged last August with third-degree sexual abuse of a child. A criminal complaint states that Jasso performed a sexual act with a 15-year-old female within the city limits of Nora Springs on or about April 2nd of last year.
As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, Jasso filed a written Alford plea to the charge in February with a formal plea change hearing held earlier this week in Floyd County District Court. With an Alford plea, a person does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a likely conviction.
In exchange for the Alford plea, prosecutors will recommend a ten-year suspended sentence and five years probation when he’s sentenced on May 12th.
