Mason City man pleads not guilty to drug charges

MASON CITY — A Mason City man has pleaded not guilty to drug charges.

A criminal complaint filed by the Mason City Police Department says they were dispatched on the night of March 9th 18 North Monroe for an active robbery call when an officer approached a man sitting in a vehicle who was later identified as 40-year-old Chase Schumacher.

The officer says they observed the suspect pulling a bag out of his pocket and putting it on the floor of the vehicle, and later willingly admitted that it was drugs. Officers later identified it as crystal meth and a meth pipe. Officers then searched Schumacher and found a container with needles, a marijuana baggie, a scale, a vape cartridge, a large knife and a large sum of cash.

Schumacher was charged with possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver meth over five grams, a Class B felony, as well as possession of marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Schumacher filed a written plea of not guilty in Cerro Gordo County District Court on Monday. His trial is scheduled to start on May 20th.
