Statewide tornado drill this morning as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week

MASON CITY — It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week and there will be a statewide tornado drill later this morning at 10:00 AM.

The National Weather Service offices that serve the state of Iowa are encouraging everyone to use the drill as an opportunity to test your severe weather preparedness. Several counties here in north-central Iowa will be testing their outdoor warning systems when the drill starts at 10:00 AM.

A reminder that outdoor warning sirens are intended for outdoor warning purposes and are not meant to be heard indoors or to wake you up.
