NIACC softball starts conference play with doubleheader sweep at Northeast Community College

NORFOLK, NEBRASKA — The 14th-ranked NIACC softball team opened Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play on Thursday with a sweep at Northeast Community College in Nebraska.
NIACC in the opener received home runs from Ally Wall and Katie Riesselman as part of an 8-3 win. Ella Trenkamp was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Izzy Sloan picked up the win with a complete game three-hitter, striking out 11.
In the nightcap, Macy Kellar fired a shutout, striking out six, as the Trojans won 9-0 in five innings. Riesselman had four RBI while Makayla Wirkus drove in three.
NIACC is now 17-9 overall and 2-0 in the conference. They return to action later this afternoon with a trip to Fort Dodge to face 19th-ranked Iowa Central in a doubleheader.
