Work to start later this month on State Highway 122 reconstruction project in Mason City Mercy corridor

MASON CITY — The Iowa Department of Transportation is a couple of weeks away from starting a multi-year, multi-stage reconstruction project on State Highway 122 in Mason City between South Pierce and South Monroe Avenues.

The DOT’s Pete Hjelmstad says the first stage of the project will be two separate construction zones at the Pierce and Monroe intersections.  “It will start with work on the intersections at Monroe and at Pierce. The whole entire area will not be closed off at first. They’ll be removing the medians in the Monroe and Pierce Avenue areas so we can move traffic over to the south side of the road, the eastbound lanes, while we reconstruct the westbound lanes on the north side of the road this year.”

The project begins on Monday, April 14th.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through those intersections. During the construction project, people will always have access to the MercyOne hospital campus.
