June sentencing date set for Mason City man on child sexual abuse charge

MASON CITY — A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for a Mason City man who has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child.

20-year-old Jackson Oetken was arrested in December on charges of third-degree sexual abuse by force and third-degree sexual abuse of a child victim. Criminal complaints stated that Oetken committed sexual acts with a female under the age of 16 multiple times between October 1st and October 23rd, with one of the instances taking place at his home and another at East Park.

Oetken recently entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors, pleading guilty to one count of third-degree sexual abuse. As part of the agreement, prosecutors in turn will recommend a suspended ten-year prison sentence and five years probation when Oetken is sentenced on June 23rd in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
