Betty was born May 5, 1922, in Rock Falls, Iowa, the daughter of William “Bill” E. and Gladys E. (Morse) Tibbits. From a young age, she took on the role of caretaker within her large family, helping raise her younger siblings with a sense of responsibility far beyond her years. That early bond with her brothers and sisters—Larry, June, Phyllis, Bob, Toots and Snook—remained strong throughout her life. Their connection was one of enduring loyalty, love, and shared memories that helped shape the foundation of who she was: a natural nurturer, a devoted sister, and the heart of a close-knit family. She attended Plymouth High School, graduating in 1939.

On July 6, 1940, she married Maurice Lane at the Methodist Parsonage in Mason City. He was her constant—a loyal and dependable partner as they built a life together in Manly, filling their home with warmth, laughter, and love as they raised five children: Sandra, Sheryl, Rene, Bill, and Bonnie.

Over the years, Betty worked at the Elks Club in Mason City, a job she loved for the camaraderie and friendships it brought. But her truest calling was motherhood, and she dedicated her life to her family. Betty never sought the spotlight, but her presence was always felt—in the comforting routines she created, the dinners she hosted, and the countless ways she cared for everyone who crossed her threshold.

She was a talented seamstress, well known at local craft shows for her lovingly made “Betty’s Babies.” Her creativity and care could be seen in every stitch. She was also locally famous for her potato salad and pies—cornerstones of family gatherings that will be deeply missed.

Betty’s home was a true gathering place—always full of family, friends, and the comfort of togetherness. Her door was always open, and her heart even more so. She gave to her church and community with the same quiet dedication she gave to her family. Her quiet faith was the foundation of her grace—the same grace she shared so freely with others.

She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends. Betty was the heartbeat of our family and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will live on in all of us.

Left to carry on her legacy are her children, Sandra Stauner of Vadnais Heights, MN, Sheryl (Ron) Kelber of White Bear Lake, MN, Maureen “Rene” (Tom) Albold of Blaine, MN and Bonnie (Mike) Hagen of Hanlontown, IA; grandchildren, Bradley (Ashley) Stauner, Stacy (Mark) Urban, Karie (Mike) Jones, Ron (Shelly) Kelber, SueAnn (Daryl) Beck, Aaron (Cheryll) Albold, Jason (Katie) Albold, Amy (Marc) Fuller, Ryan (Sarah) Hagen, Lindsey (Kyle) Harrison, Chris (Ami) Hagen, and Taylor Hagen; 21 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Marlene (Jerry) Jenkins, Ed (Carol) Davies, Wally (Judy) Davies, Gladys “Tiny” Krahenbuhl; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Those greeting her in Heaven are her husband, Maurice; son, William; parents, William (Mae) Tibbits and Gladys (Walter) Davies; great-granddaughter, Chelsea Lane Kelber; great-great granddaughter Scarlett Kelber; siblings, Larry (Frances) Tibbits, June (Kneeland) Fredrickson, Phyllis (Dutch) Gericke, Bob (Gladys) Tibbits, Clarice “Tootie” (Jerry) Skyles, Marvin “Snook” Tibbits, JoAnn (Joe) Frank, Marlys (Herb) Pederson, Ronald Tibbits and Donald Tibbits; in-laws; and many extended relatives.
