Iowa Senate passes school state funding bill

DES MOINES — A compromise has been worked out between House and Senate Republicans over general state funding for Iowa’s K-through-12 students.

The compromise includes two priorities of House Republicans with more money for schools with higher transportation costs along with about $1 million so smaller school districts have the ability to share more staff.

The bill passed the Senate on a 32-15 vote on Monday, and the bill is likely to be voted on in the House later today.

House Republicans had pushed for slightly more per pupil state spending but decided to move forward with the bill since school districts must certify their Fiscal Year 2026 budgets no later than April 30th.
