Charles City man headed to prison on federal firearm, domestic abuse charges

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Charles City man is headed to federal prison for more than four years after pleading guilty to firearm and domestic abuse charges.
The US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa’s office says 32-year-old Dashaune Burns-Johnson brought drugs and a loaded firearm to his neighbor’s house in Charles City on May 22nd of last year. Burns-Johnson pulled the firearm out of his backpack and pointed it at someone in the house. He had previously been convicted of felony and misdemeanor crimes related to domestic abuse assault.
Burns-Johnson was sentenced by US District Court Judge Leonard Strand to 57 months in prison to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
