NIACC roundup from Thursday April 10 — softball splits with Iowa Western, baseball falls to Kirkwood

MASON CITY — The 16th-ranked NIACC softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Iowa Western on Thursday in Mason City. Iowa Western jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first two innings of the opener to pick up a 12-3 five-inning win. NIACC then took the nightcap as Katie Riesselman hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 win. NIACC is now 23-15 overall and will get back to action on Saturday as they travel to Iowa Falls to face Ellsworth in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference doubleheader.
MASON CITY — 19th-ranked Kirkwood pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of three errors as the Eagles beat NIACC 13-3 in seven innings at Roosevelt Field on Thursday afternoon. Kirkwood socked four home runs in the contest. NIACC had three solo home runs for all their scoring as George McIntyre had solo home runs in the first and third innings while Lincoln Becker added a solo round tripper in the sixth. NIACC drops to 14-22 overall and 7-10 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. They return to conference action with a three-game series at Iowa Central on Saturday and Sunday.
