Reynolds reflects on announcement, Iowa GOP prepares for finding next nominee

DES MOINES — A day after announcing she was not seeking a third full term as governor, Governor Kim Reynolds told reporters Saturday that she had been weighing whether she could give 100% to the job if she were elected to serve another four-year term from 2027-2031.
Reynolds told reporters as she was getting older and her family is growing and her folks are aging, it was time for her to pivot and to put family first.
Reynolds spoke with reporters while a few hundred people were at Terrace Hill, the governor’s mansion, for an Easter Egg hunt.
The Iowa GOP now starts the process of finding the next nominee for governor in the 2026 election.
Williamsburg Republican Brad Sherman announced in February he planned to run for governor in 2026. He issued a statement on Friday thanking Reynolds for her many years of service to the state, and saying that he was prepared to lead Iowa into its next chapter.
