Mercy-North Iowa one of five recipients to help expand summer internships

MASON CITY — The Mercy Medical Center Foundation of North Iowa in Mason City is one of five award recipients that are designed to help expand the number of Iowa’s youth participating in internships this summer.
The Iowa Summer Youth Internship Program grants totalling $254,000 will help support over 100 youth participating in summer internships in high-demand areas of the workforce. MercyOne of Mason City’s Career Pathway Program is the recipient of $59,132 and is designed to address critical workforce shortages in clinical laboratory services while creating meaningful employment opportunities for underserved youth in Cerro Gordo County.
The eight-week program will provide 12 participants with specialized training in phlebotomy. Through structured training and paid work experience, participants will be positioned to earn industry-recognized credentials, real-world clinical experience, and direct employment opportunities.
