Mason City man pleads not guilty to cocaine distribution charge

MASON CITY — A Mason City man has pleaded not guilty to a cocaine delivery charge.

A criminal complaint states that 66-year-old Jose Cabezudo Garcia was arrested in March after an investigation for the distribution of cocaine in Mason City. A search warrant was executed on Cabezudo’s residence and vehicle on December 11th of last year where authorities allegedly located two grams of cocaine, one in his vehicle and one in his bedroom. Authorities also say they found a small amount of cash, a digital scale and a handgun in the bedroom.

The complaint says authorities questioned Cabezudo on the scene, where he admitted to the cocaine being his, buying it for $50 a gram and selling it for $70 a gram.

Cabezudo was charged with one count of intent to deliver cocaine under 100 grams, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.

He filed a written plea of not guilty in Cerro Gordo County District Court earlier this week. His trial is scheduled to start on June 17th.
