Grassley believes in most cases tariff plan is working

NEW HARTFORD — Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says for now, the tariffs President Trump has imposed appear in many situations to be working.
Grassley says, “Maybe we’re worrying a little bit too much of the impact of the president’s tariff policies, because if he’s got more than 100 countries wanting to sit down in Washington DC and negotiate, and they’ve already had 12 negotiations successful, then maybe the president’s tariff policies are working.”
Grassley says he’s been an advocate for negotiating tariffs down and he believes Trump has been successful. “At the speed he’s going with these tariffs, and the response he’s getting from more than 100 countries, maybe he’s going to get tariffs down better than anything we negotiated. So I think I see success for the president’s program at this point. Maybe a month from now I won’t say that, but today it looks like his plan is working as people want to come to the table.”
China’s foreign ministry meanwhile says they’ll pay no attention if the United States continues to play the “tariff numbers game” after the White House outlined how China faces tariffs of up to 245% due to its retaliatory actions.
