NIACC softball drops doubleheader at #7 DMACC, baseball falls to Southwestern in extra innings

BOONE — The 21st-ranked NIACC softball team dropped an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference doubleheader at 7th-ranked DMACC on Wednesday afternoon. DMACC pounded out ten hits, scoring two runs in the third and seven in the fourth in a 9-1 five-inning contest. The Bears completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap. NIACC drops to 25-19 overall and 9-9 in the conference and will be at home for a pair of conference doubleheaders later this week as they host Ellsworth on Friday and Iowa Lakes on Saturday.
MASON CITY — The NIACC baseball team rallied to send their game against Southwestern to extra innings, but they fell 17-14 in 11 innings at Roosevelt Field on Wednesday afternoon. After giving up four runs in the eighth and one in the top of the ninth, NIACC tied the game with a three-run bottom of the ninth, with the key hit in the inning being a two-run home run by Lincoln Becker. Both teams scored two runs in the 10th before Southwestern plated three runs in the 11th to take the contest. The game lasted four hours and 20 minutes and saw a total of 31 runs, 28 base hits and 13 total errors. NIACC drops to 14-26 overall and 7-14 in the conference. They’ll host Iowa Western for a three-game series this weekend starting with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
