Updated story — severe storms drop large hail, blow over semis in north-central Iowa

MASON CITY — Severe storms rolled through north-central Iowa with high winds and large hail early this morning.

The largest hail reported was two inch or egg-sized hail in Floyd County one mile northwest of Charles City at 4:55 AM. There were also inch-and-a-half or ping pong ball-sized hail reports at about that same time near the community of Floyd.

Franklin County saw golf ball sized hail, or inch-and-three-quarters sized, in the Hampton area at around 3:15 AM.

Winds associated with a thunderstorm that passed through northern Franklin County near the 174 mile marker of Interstate 35 six miles south of Thornton caused three semis to be blown over at around 4:33 AM.

After a tranquil rest of your day today as well as Saturday, showers are likely to return for Easter Sunday, with the possibility of non-severe thunderstorms on Sunday night.
