Mason City man pleads not guilty to continuous child sexual abuse

MASON CITY — A Mason City man arrested for continuous sexual abuse of a child as well as harassment has pleaded not guilty.

A criminal complaint states that 18-year-old Trenton Wise committed a sex act with a child age 13 or younger at a residence in Mason City between May and September of last year. Wise was charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Separate criminal complaints accuse Wise of harassing three individuals on the evening of March 27th, with Wise allegedly pulling the waist band of his pants up, showing what was believed to be a handgun, later pulling the weapon out of his pants and pointing it in a threatening manner. Wise was charged with three counts of first-degree harassment, each an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison.

Wise was due in court today for his arraignment hearing, but he filed written pleas of not guilty to the charges last week in Cerro Gordo County District Court. His trial is scheduled to start on June 3rd.
