NIACC weekend roundup — softball sweeps two doubleheaders, baseball swept by Iowa Western

MASON CITY — The 21st-ranked NIACC softball team swept a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference doubleheaders over the weekend. The Trojans started with a pair of shutouts on Friday over Ellsworth as Izzy Sloan had a four-hitter with six strikeouts in a 6-0 win. In Friday’s nightcap, Macy Kellar struck out six in a 15-0, five-inning win. On Saturday, coach Matt Egger gained his 100th victory as NIACC’s head coach with a 3-2, nine-inning win over Iowa Lakes in the opener. Ella Trenkamp drove in the winning run for NIACC on a sacrifice fly. In the second game, Kellar pitched her second straight shutout in a 7-0 victory. NIACC is now 29-19 overall and 13-9 in the conference. The Trojans return to action on Wednesday hosting Hawkeye Community College. 

 

MASON CITY — The NIACC baseball team was swept by Iowa Western in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference series over the weekend. On Friday, the Reivers scored five times in the top of the ninth and held off a bottom of the ninth rally by the Trojans for a 13-10 win. Iowa Western on Saturday pounded out 12 hits in the opener for a 12-0, five-inning win, and followed that up with a 10-6 win in the nightcap. NIACC drops to 14-29 overall and 7-17 in the conference and will travel to Ellsworth on Wednesday.
